Second Nine Weeks Journal#1
Personal Experience
TARZAN
My hope for everyone, in life, is to find an interest and be passionate about it. When working on the "Meaning of Life" project, I discovered what matters most to me is pursuing passions. There is no greater feeling than achieving success in an area that matters deeply to you. I consider myself very fortunate to have found my passion at such a young age. Theatre is my reason for waking up in the morning with excitement and joy. Theatre is the reason I am confident in my skin with a lack of care of what others think of me. At this point I can't even imagine my world without theatre. It has played such a defining role in shaping my life.
Junior year has been a great year for me in terms of theatre. James River High School is ONE week away from opening it's musical in which I am a leading role. Tarzan, the upbeat wild musical has made this year an unforgettable experience. Tarzan is the age old tale of a human orphan rescued and raised by gorillas! His gorilla mother, Kala (played by me) and best gorilla friend Turk (Nikhil Anzola) teach Tarzan to become an ape. Tarzan grows up to be this amazing ape-man but his world is soon shattered when British scientists find their way to the jungle. He discovers what it means to be a human man and on the way he learns to fall in love with the beautiful and bright, Jane Porter! From the amazing friendships strengthened, to new bonds forming, everyone in this cast has truly embraced the message of the show; family.
I have absolutely loved being a part of this musical. Tarzan was the first movie I ever saw in theaters when I was very little. Needless to say, I was totally obsessed. It makes me feel so nostalgic to be a teenager portraying one of my favorite disney characters.
My wish is to leave the audience inspired. Inspired to try new things! Inspired to find their own passion! To be encouraged to pursue their hobbies and dreams. Being a high school student can sometimes cause you to feel like your dreams are "stupid" or "dumb". The fear of what others may think of them gets in the way of pursuing passions. My hope is that Tarzan will inspire James River students to follow their passions and be comfortable in their own skin.

the next day promises nothing." - Eric Davis
